The Role of Reflection in Discovering Your Next Chapter

When we stand at the edge of change, whether it’s a career shift, early retirement, or turning passion into purpose, the temptation is to rush forward. But here’s what I’ve learned through my own journey: the next chapter doesn’t begin with action; it begins with reflection.

I’ve seen this play out in my own life. When I trained for a marathon, it wasn’t just the physical endurance that mattered; it was the moments of self-reflection that helped me push through fear and doubt. When I launched my podcast, reflection helped me stay anchored in my why, even when technical glitches or nerves threatened to throw me off.

Reflection has been my tool for aligning every new step with my values: family, service, authenticity, and legacy.

As I’ve written in From Profession to Passion and witnessed in the lives of those I coach, reflection is where clarity is born.

It’s where we ask ourselves:
• What truly matters to me now?
• What hidden strengths have I overlooked?
• What story do I need to release so I can move forward with courage?

I often prompt my clients to pause and reflect with intention:
• List your top three values—how are they shaping your next move?
• Describe a recent experience where you surprised yourself—what shift happened as a result?
• Write down one thought about your transition. Is it serving you? If not, how can you reframe it?

The role of reflection in discovering your next chapter

These aren’t just exercises—they’re powerful tools that help uncover the path that’s been waiting for you all along.

So I ask you today: What is your next chapter asking of you? And will you give yourself the gift of reflection long enough to hear the answer?

Your future isn’t built on busyness. It’s built on clarity—and that clarity begins within.

That’s why I created the “𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥”, 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧. It’s designed to help you kick-start your journey by guiding you through the reflective process. It certainly helped me.
